Had to set the alarm clock this morning, as we were due to sail into Venice at 7am, and it’s an unmissable experience. Unfortunately, our neighbours set their alarm clocks for 5:30, so it we had ridiculously early start to the day (the cabin walls are thin!)
The temperature was soaring above 30°C by the time we decided to hit the town, and after a wander round the narrow streets admiring the designer clothes shops and amazing glass displays, we sought refuge in the Museum Correr, and made straight for the early Christian icons. There’s nothing like iconoclastic art, particularly when it’s gold on wood, to guarantee the best air-conditioning. And (this information especially for Jane) the museums usually have nice toilets.
On our way back to the ship we managed to acquire yesterday’s papers – the Guardian for Harold, and the Daily M*** for Dave – purely to look for cruise offers you understand.
We had dinner on deck tonight as we sailed off to our next destination, and then rounded off the evening with a visit to the theatre to snooze through a concert pianist’s performance.
That’s it for now,
Janet & Dave
